BOSTON (AP) — Thousands of drug convictions have been tossed in Massachusetts due to a former state drug lab chemist who labored whereas excessive nearly each day.
A report filed Tuesday with the state Supreme Judicial Court says greater than 24,000 convictions in 16,449 circumstances have been dismissed because of the scandal.
The American Civil Liberties Union say the dismissals symbolize a “historic victory” for folks wrongfully convicted of drug crimes primarily based on unreliable proof.
The Supreme Judicial Court dominated in October that Massachusetts should dismiss all convictions primarily based on drug proof examined on the Amherst lab between Jan. 1, 2009, and Jan. 18, 2013, when the lab closed.
Sonja Farak pleaded responsible to stealing medication from the lab in 2014. She was sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
