WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says “nothing is off the table” in pushing the White House to adjust to subpoenas for info, together with fining administration officers via what’s referred to as inherent contempt of Congress.
Pelosi mentioned Thursday she hopes it doesn’t come to that. But she referred to as the White House counsel’s letter to the Judiciary Committee resisting all requests for info “a joke” and “beneath the dignity of the president of the United States.”
The White House mentioned it could not comply as a result of the congressional inquiries don’t have any “legislative” objective.
Pelosi mentioned House Democrats goal to “subpoena friendly,” then “subpoena otherwise.”
She famous that one of many constitutional functions of congressional investigations is impeachment. “It doesn’t mean you’re going on an impeachment path,” Pelosi mentioned. “It means if you had the information you might.”
