Kennedy wins an endorsement from Representative John Lewis, a civil rights icon

Representative Joseph P. Kennedy III picked up some notable endorsements from House colleagues in his major race in opposition to Senator Edward J. Markey, gaining the backing of a number of high-profile Democrats, together with the civil rights icon John Lewis.

“In the years that I’ve identified Joe Kennedy I’ve seen him rise up and combat — repeatedly — for the struggling, the struggling, and the silenced,’’ stated the 79-year-old Lewis, a Georgia Democrat who was a pivotal participant within the civil rights motion.

“At a second of profound nationwide disaster, Joe gives our nation the type of highly effective ethical management it wants,’’ Lewis stated. “He is a clear voice for justice and dignity in our rising era of public servants. I’m proud to endorse his run for the US Senate.’’
